iContact is a 57 person company based in Durham, NC, near RTP, that provides on-demand software that makes online communication easy. The company’s product iContact is an email marketing, blogging, and online communications platform used by over 11,000 companies worldwide. The company is seeking a Director of Sales. This job is available for a leader with experience building out a scalable inside sales and telesales team. The existing sales team consists of three inside sales reps and two account managers. We are looking to build an in-house telemarketing effort to sell our iContact Enterprise product.

We are looking for a “player/coach” who can ‘do’ as well as lead, scale, and structure. We are seeking someone who is able to invent and is disciplined, aggressive, persistent, and hungry. Past experience with building and managing a sales team with a target sales plan is required. Experience selling web-based software is a plus. There is tremendous opportunity for the person who joins as the Director of Sales within a firm on track for $6.5+ million in 2007 sales and growing. This individual knows how to build and direct an effective team of dedicated and professional salespeople. The preferred candidate wants to participate in a rapidly growing entrepreneurial environment, is able to earn their way into a management position, and knows how to exceed expectations.

Responsibilities

  1. Structuring a sales and account manager compensation plan and sales coverage model, setting mix between base and commission and ensuring incentives are placed on desired activities (customer acquisition for sales reps and customer retention for account managers)

  2. Structuring inside sales, enterprise sales, large sender sales, agency sales, and partner sales efforts

  3. Making enterprise telesales model work in-house and then scaling the effort to dozens of enterprise sales reps within one year

  4. Increasing lead generation and lead conversion rates

  5. Managing of inside sales and account management staff

  6. Helping existing representatives increase sales volume

  7. Utilizing SugarCRM and other tools to creating the tracking system needed to provide accurate commission reporting

  8. Creating collateral for and targeting specific verticals such as political campaigns, PR agencies, web design firms, law firms, restaurants, internet retailers, franchises, and accounting firms.

  9. Attending trade shows on behalf of the company

  10. Working to sell iContact Enterprise though channel sales organizations
  11. Doing whatever is necessary to increase sales for iContact and iContact Enterprise

  12. Determining performance standards and outcome metrics

  13. Training and monitoring sales activities and outcomes of department

  14. Providing IT and development with customer driven insights and suggestions

Requirements

  1. Masters Degree in Business Management or equivalent experience
  2. Successful experience in managing a sales team to above-plan results
  3. Experience building sales team and channel coverage
  4. Success building a telemarketing team
  5. Knowledge of IT, business software applications, lead generation and incentive programs
  6. Able to build training and support materials for sales, channels and partners
  7. Excellent phone skills with proven ability to communicate with executives and management
