
We are having the 7th Entrepreneur & Social Entrepreneur Meetup at our house tonight (Thursday). We have 36 confirmed and 24 maybes for the event including about 20 first-timers. The meetup will be at our house at 102 Millingport Court in Meadowmont in Chapel Hill starting at 9:30pm. We will be having 5 minute presentations from Danika Barry of the Millennium Village Project and Brandon Mullins of Bookmesh.com. We also have one additional five minute presentation spot if anyone wants to grab it. We will have a laptop and projector to display slides or a web site.

Here is a brief bio from what I know on those that that have confirmed, followed by directions and parking instructions:
James Riley
James is the Membership Director for Sustainable NC (see http://www.sustainnc.org/). He is also the Operations Manager for Blend night club in Chapel Hill. James graduated from Carolina in 2006 with a degree in Philosophy and Asian Studies. James supports Edwards for president in 2008 as well as Net Neutrality. He went to Broughton for high school in Raleigh.
Breck Yunits
Breck is a 2007 graduate of Duke from Boston. He was an econ major while there and involved with Shoeboxed.com and Seemewin.com, two Web 2.0 web apps.
Logan Couce
Logan is a senior at UNC from Pinehurst and ’04 grad of NC School of Science and Math and a member of Nourish and Triangle Dance Festival for AIDS. He loves to have crazy parties and is a mad Jenga player. He studies Psychology and Social Entrepreneurship at UNC.
Jacquie Harkema
From what I can tell so far, Jacquie is an extremely unique person. She is a senior at Carolina studying International Studies and Biology. She’s from Vancouver, BC. She has a great quote on her profile that she read once on a t-shirt, “Nature wants us to be mediocre because we have a greater change to survive and reproduce. Mediocre is as close to the bottom as it is to the top, and will give you a lousy life.” She spent the summer in Denmark and is glad to be back in town and has spent time in Namibia. Peyton Maddox
Peyton is a web application developer at iContact and a 2007 graduate of UNC from Alabama who likes sweet tea. He also helps out with web stuff for Maddox Oncology, a family company that sells products for cancer survivors.
Taylor Mingos
Taylor is the ‘big cheese’ behind Shoeboxed.com, a site started by Taylor and other Duke students focused on making it really easy to keep track of and organize purchases and receipts online. Taylor is a 2007 graduate of Duke where he studied biomedical engineering and German. He’s from Kansas City.
Amy Eagleburger
Amy is from Lake Forest, CA and Scotland. She is a senior at UNC studying journalism and international studies. She went to high school in Charlotte. She is excited that Scotland beat France in football today. She is interested in pirates and The Economist.
Jeremy Welch
Jeremy is a junior at Duke and a co-founder of Shoeboxed.com. He recently came back from Germany where he was working on StudiVZ.net. His blog is up at http://jeremyrwelch.wordpress.com.
Donald McMillan
Donald works as a Business Development manager with http://www.schmap.com, a worldwide travel maps site. He is part of the Web 2.0 crowd. I look forward to getting to know him better.
Evan Beard
Evan is a junior at Duke majoring in Economics. He is an entrepreneur from Annapolis, MD and has worked on many entrepreneurial projects. His company in development is Wilshireshaw.com.
Lindsay Johnson
Lindsay is a senior at UNC in English Lit and Rhetorical Studies. She is the founder and Director of New Worlds Through Literature, which sends packs of selected books to non-profit organizations in North Carolina to help increase literacy. She lives in Meadowmont with two of her sisters.
Phil Gennett
Phil Gennett is a senior at UNC studying economics and entrepreneurship from Fairview, NC. He has run a few ventures while at UNC including the Heist clothing line. He was the President of the Carolina Entrepreneurship Club in the past and is on the leadership team with the Carolina challenge. Phil blew a hole in his lung at the first meetup back in June and I had to take him to the ER for a three hour checkup, so we are glad he is okay and able to come back.
Nick Alexander
Nick is a junior at Duke where he studies electrical and computer engineering. He is involved with Seemewin.com and CouponDJ.com. He is also involved with www.tag-tech.com.
Anthony Deloso
Anthony runs Deloso Ventures (See www.anthonydeloso.com), a web design and development firm running out of my den. He is sitting next to me right now, and doesn’t really want a bio for some reason but I told him it was biocity time for him. He hasn’t been to a meetup yet, although he knows all the other people that go. I don’t think he can possibly miss this one, however, because he lives here. He is now laughing. He also works with Dormoo. He is one of the best designers I know.
Christina Riegel
Christina is a junior at UNC from Charlotte studying Art and Environmental studies. I have had some great discussions with her about the sustainability. She currently works at Cold Process Roofing researching the energy benefits and the positives of sustainability as it applies to roofing. Christina really wanted a bio, and likes to use lots of exclamation points. She quotes Flavor Fav, Al Gore, and a pro-Clinton protestor on her profile.
Stella Lam
Stella is a junior at UNC studying Biology and Entrepreneurship. She is from Huntersville, NC. She currently works at the Center for Developmental Science doing data management. She has a picture a Gnome on her profile. Stella believes that “life is an opportunity to live, learn, and grow.”
Pedro Carreno
I can already tell that Pedro is an extremely authentic, caring, and hardworking guy. He is a junior at UNC studying Public Policy, Social Entrepreneurship, and Latin American Studies. He is involved with Carolina Hispanic Association (CHisPa), the Carolina Microfinance Initiative, UNC Young Democrats, and the Campus Y. He has the following quote on his profile,” so often, humanity seems divided by barriers of all kinds--race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, nationality, age and social class—barriers that do little except to blind us to the reality of our common bonds.”
Lydia Sparks
Lydia is a senior at UNC from Cary who is an amazing singer and writer. She is studying political psi and psychology and works as an RA in Ram Village. I've known Lydia since around April or so when I met her through John and Bob. She quotes Outkast, Tommy Boy, CS Lewis, Madonna, and Marilyn Monroe on her profile. She is an awesome and very fun person known for having high adrenaline.
Christina Kyriazi
Christina is a senior at UNC from Charlotte and Athens, Greece focusing on Economics and International Studies with a minor in Entrepreneurship. She is in Buck Goldstein and Jon Stewart’s class on entrepreneurship and I met her when I spoke there last week. She works with the Center for Global Initiatives.
Bob Phoenix
Bob, aka Bobaliciousness, is in his last semester at UNC as a business major and will be studying abroad in Spain starting September 1. He works with Dormoo and Cold Process Roofing. Bob is involved with AK Psi and went to Broughton HS in Raleigh. Bob is an awesome guy. He describes himself with, “I'm a young entrepreneur who has a vision for success and a wide range of interests and dreams. I finish school this semester by studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain for 3 months. I enjoy great conversations, meeting new people, understanding other people's perspectives, and learning. Eventually I will find my passion I will base my career on, but until then, I'm enjoying life, making connections and friendships, growing personally and professionally, and loving it all.”
Richard Waynick
Richard was in the class of 2007 at UNC studying business. He is from Greensboro. He manages condos with Waynick and Kumar Enterprises at destinfantasy.com and is the VP of Sales for Cold Process Roofing, which applies industrial grade roof coating systems to primarily industrial and commercial buildings.
Jared Polivka
Jared is a sophomore at UNC studying Journalism and Political Science from New Bern. He quotes Mark Twain on his profile with “I never let schooling interfere with my education.” He is into golf, martial arts, and ultimate Frisbee. He wants to get his homework out of the way so he can focus on his entrepreneurial projects. He is minoring in Entrepreneurship and is in Buck Goldstein’s class on entrepreneurship.
Nate Seaman
Nate is a junior at UNC studying Economics and Entrepreneurship from Connecticut. He does fencing, wakeboarding, and snowboard and does market analysis for Falcon Investors. Nate is “not a business man; he’s a business, man.” He lives in the fencing house I believe—or at least parties there a lot.
Suresh L. B.
Suresh is a junior at UNC studying business from Goldsboro, NC. I think he is in AK Psi. He’s looking for Drucker’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Portable MBA in Entrepreneurship—according to his profile—Suresh I have both if you still need them. I look forward to getting to know Suresh better.
Helen Marino
Helen is a big Michigan fan. She is a sophomore at UNC from Broughton studying Political Science and Arabic. She has been a sales associate at Omega Sports and a research assistant at UNC. She is interested in the Peace Corps., the future of US-Islamic relations, and race relations.
James Forsyth
James is an economics major at Wake Forest in the class of 2008. He has been my roommate since June. He is currently focusing on creating the script, raising funding, and building support for a documentary on global poverty called The Great Awakening made in the spirit of An Inconvenient Truth. He is working on getting the support of Russell Simmons, Jay-Z, and Jeffrey Sachs. He is also working on starting a progressive student magazine. He is off to raise funding from a hedge fund in New York City shortly.
Brandon Mullins
Welcome into town Brandon—Brandon is a 2007 University of Tennessee alum from Knoxville who is driving in to stay with us this weekend to scope out the Triangle and determine if he wants to move here or in Silicon Valley to pursue his businesses. Let’s show him all the awesome stuff the Triangle is up to and all the benefits of being here. Brandon is the co-founder of www.bookmesh.com. Brandon is so web 2.0 that he has his Twitter Facebook App Plug In feeding into his Wordpress blog which syndicates TechCrunch and Mashable while porting over comments through XML into an AJAX widget. He is going to be one of the most successful entrepreneurs in America. Period.
Roey Rosenblith
Roey is a 2006 graduate of UNC-W in Poli Sci and Biology. He was formerly the Director of Outreach and Fulfillment for the Full Belly Project (http://www.fullbellyproject.org/index.asp) which is working to distribute a nut shelling machine in Uganda and other locations that saves a tremendous amount of labor. Roey has worked as a research assistant for Arianna Huffington. Roey moved into our house last weekend and is now an official 102 Millingporter. He is starting to work on a project in Ethiopia.
Emilie Yeager
Emilie works on the systems team at iContact. She graduated from Gardner-Webb in 2005 where she studied Computer Science and Math. She will be moving to New York City in October to begin a new adventure. She says that life is like the movie Garden State. I’ve spent the past few Friday nights staying up until about 6am talking to Emilie about all things related to life and can say she is an awesome person—and makes hilarious dancing faces. She wants to work in the future with a non-profit organization that works with suicide prevention.
John Parron Hinson
John describes his religious views as 'whatever Bill Murray thinks.' He is from Chapel Hill and is about to have a big birthday party at our house on September 15 that you better come to. He is a NC State graduate in computer science and economics, but is better known as a great DJ, amazing freestyle rapper, and the Vice President of Cold Process Roofing and COO of Dormoo. John worked for Northrop Grumman in Maryland for a few years before coming back to town. I've known John since the ManDate meetups of 2006.
Casey Sessoms
Casey is a junior at UNC studying Biology. She transferred here this year. She is from 'A-town, NC' which I would assume to be Asheville and she went to high school in Pinehurst. She has 88% extraversion on her Facebook My Personality App. I met Casey through John and Christina and she is a smart, sincere person.
Ben Weinberger
Ben is the co-founder of DigitalSmiths, a contextual video ad serving technology platform (they make the technology that enables a Hair Club for Men ad show up when you’re watching a video online that talks about hair loss). They just raised $5 million in June from Aurora Funds, a venture capital firm in Durham. Ben and his wife Jill, who works with CED, recently moved here from South Carolina.
Ruchir Shah Raleigh / Durham, NC UNC Alum '06 Ruchir is the founder of SPOT-NC (Students and Professionals of the Triangle), a networking organization in the Triangle. Ruchir works at Constella Group in Durham. He is a 2006 PH.D from UNC in Bioinformatics.
Lauren Westervelt
Lauren is a senior at UNC focusing on International Studies and Environmental Sciences. She has recently spent some time in Cuba I believe. I don’t think I’ve met Lauren before but I look forward to getting to know her.
Michael Burkhar
Michael is a senior at UNC studying Biochemistry and Biology. Michael is involved with fencing, Hunger Lunch, Hold’Em for Hunger.
Danika Barry
I’ve known Danika for about a year and can tell you she is a dedicated person who cares about making a difference in the world. Danika is a senior at UNC studying Public Policy and Political Science from Aurora, Colorado. She is on the Board of Advocates for Grassroots Development in Uganda and works with the Millennium Village Project and Circle K. She was in Uganda this past summer working with AGRADU. She says, “I am enamored with good conversation; "The air of ideas is the only air worth breathing. Let's talk.”
PARKING
You can park along Park Bluff N. road if you can't fit in the cul de sac. Try not to make too much noise while outside because the neighbors will probably be sleeping.
DIRECTIONS FROM DOWNTOWN CHAPEL HILL
Get into HW54 (aka Raleigh Road) and come down the hill from Chapel Hill. You'll go about 1 mile after you get to the bottom of the hill, then take a left onto Meadowmont Lane. Go to the very end of Meadowmont Lane (~1.5 miles) where it dead ends, then take left onto Park Bluff N. then enter the first cul de sac on your right into Millingport Court.
