INVESTORS
Jason Caplain
Jason is a partner at Southern Capitol Ventures (www.southerncapitolventures.com), a venture capital firm in Raleigh. I’ve known Jason since November of 2005 when we pitched iContact to his firm. He is one of the most aggressive and passionate investors I know. They are investors in Motricity, Art.com, ReverbNation.com, Batanga.com, and Channel Advisor. He is holding a Calling All Entrepreneurs event, which allows any entrepreneur to present their idea, all day on Friday at the Channel Advisor office (contact him at jason[at]southerncapitolventures.com to set up a time if you want to present). Robert Goodlatte
Rob is a senior at Duke from Roanoke, Virginia studying computer science and Philosophy. He is a graphic and web designer with a blog and portfolio at http://www.robgoodlatte.com.
Taylor Mingos
Taylor is the ‘big cheese’ behind Shoeboxed.com, a site started by Taylor and other Duke students focused on making it really easy to keep track of and organize purchases and receipts online. Taylor is a 2007 graduate of Duke where he studied biomedical engineering and German. He’s from Kansas City.
Evan Beard
Evan is a junior at Duke majoring in Economics. He is an entrepreneur from Annapolis, MD and has worked on many entrepreneurial projects. His company in development is Wilshireshaw.com. Evan is the VP of Invites for the Meetup.
Jeremy Welch
Jeremy is a junior at Duke and a co-founder of Shoeboxed.com. He recently came back from Germany where he was working on StudiVZ.net. His blog is up at http://jeremyrwelch.wordpress.com.
Nick Alexander
Nick is a junior at Duke where he studies electrical and computer engineering. He is involved with Seemewin.com and CouponDJ.com. He is also involved with www.tag-tech.com.
Andrew First
Andrew is a sophomore at Duke studying Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science. He is from Winter Springs, Florida. He is interested in piano, Starcraft, ping pong, and chess.
Will Patrick
Will is a sophomore at Duke studying mechanical engineering from Chapel Hill. He is interested in green design and appropriate technology. The causes he supports are Invisible Children, Stop Global Warming, Amnesty International, and Support Global Engagement. He supports Barack Obama and John Edwards in the 2008 election.

James Riley
James is the Membership Director for Sustainable NC (http://www.sustainnc.org/). He is also the Operations Manager for Blend night club in Chapel Hill. James graduated from Carolina in 2006 with a degree in Philosophy and Asian Studies. James supports Edwards for president in 2008 as well as Net Neutrality. He went to Broughton for high school in Raleigh.
Bryon Zandt
Bryon was in the class of 2007 at UNC majoring in Business. He is from Raleigh and was involved with Nourish International (www.nourishinternational.org) and Hold ‘Em for Hunger (www.holdemforhunder.org). He now works with Cuberis (www.cuberis.com) as a web designer.
Michael Kelso
Michael was in the class of 2004 at UNC studying Biology and Chemistry who now is in medical school at UNC. He is the co-founder of Reviving Our Communities (www.revivingourcommunities.org). He supports Barack Obama for President. Logan Couce
Logan is a senior at UNC from Pinehurst and ’04 grad of NC School of Science and Math. He is the Co-President of the UNC Chapter of Nourish International and part of the Triangle Dance Festival for AIDS. He loves to have crazy parties and is a mad Jenga player. He studies Psychology and Social Entrepreneurship at UNC.
Anthony Deloso
Anthony runs Deloso Ventures (See www.anthonydeloso.com), a web design and development firm. He is in the class of 2008 at UNC and lives at our house.
Lauren Westervelt
Lauren is a senior at UNC focusing on International Studies and Environmental Sciences. She has recently spent some time in Cuba I believe. I don’t know if I’ve met Lauren before but I look forward to getting to know her.
Michael Stella
I’ve known Michael since freshman year of 2002-2003. He majored in Biology and Chemistry while at UNC and now is in his second year of Dental School at UNC. He is from Elizabeth City, NC.
Michael Burkhart
Michael is a senior at UNC studying Biochemistry and Biology. Michael is involved with fencing, Hunger Lunch, Hold’Em for Hunger.
Stephanie Chen
Stephanie is a senior at UNC from Greensboro majoring in Business at Kenan-Flagler. I don’t know her that well yet but look forward to getting to know her.
Jacquie Harkema
Jacquie is a senior at Carolina studying International Studies and Biology. She’s from Salt Sprint Island, BC near Vancouver. She has a quote on her profile “Nature wants us to be mediocre because we have a greater change to survive and reproduce. Mediocre is as close to the bottom as it is to the top, and will give you a lousy life.” She spent the summer in Denmark has spent time in Namibia and Zambia. Christina Riegel
Christina is a junior at UNC from Charlotte studying Art and Environmental studies. I have had some great discussions with her about the sustainability. She currently works at Cold Process Roofing researching the energy benefits and the positives of sustainability as it applies to roofing. Christina really wanted a bio, and likes to use lots of exclamation points. She quotes Flavor Fav, Al Gore, and a pro-Clinton protestor on her profile.
Pedro Carreno
Pedro is an extremely authentic, caring, and hardworking guy. He is a junior at UNC studying Public Policy, Social Entrepreneurship, and Latin American Studies. He is involved with Carolina Hispanic Association (CHisPa), the Carolina Microfinance Initiative, UNC Young Democrats, and the Campus Y. Lydia Sparks
Lydia is a senior at UNC from Cary who is an amazing singer and writer. She is studying political psi and psychology and works as an RA in Ram Village. I've known Lydia since around April or so when I met her through John and Bob. She quotes Outkast, Tommy Boy, CS Lewis, Madonna, and Marilyn Monroe on her profile. She is an awesome and very fun person known for having high adrenaline.
Carlos Toriello
Carlos is a Junior at UNC majoring in Economics and Minoring in Entrepreneurship. He is the Co-President of the UNC Chapter of Nourish International and led a Nourish trip to Guatemala this past summer for 5 weeks. They blogged at http://nourishguatemala.blogspot.com/. He is from Guatemala City. His favorite books are Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Natural Capitalism, Free World, and La Resistaencia. John Moss
John is a Senior Business Major at UNC who went to Ravenscroft in Raleigh for high school. I don’t know John too well yet but look forward to getting to know him.
Dalton Granville Lilley
Dalton is a senior at UNC from Brevard, North Carolina studying Business and Economics who participates in the Carolina Challenge, Undergraduate Venture Capital Investment Competition, Investment Society, Realty Club, and Scuba Club. He is a Johnston Scholar and was a District Manager intern at the German superstore ALDI over the summer.
Elliot McGucken
Elliot teaches at UNC and went to school at Princeton. The bio on his site says, “Born in Ohio, Elliot grew up outdoors except for when he was sitting in front of a computer. He attended Princeton and received a Ph.D. in physics from UNC Chapel Hill where his dissertation on an artificial retina for the blind won a Merrill Lynch Innovations Award. Now and then he teaches a class in physics or programming, but mostly he writes fiction and codes. His two latest projects, authena.org and 22surf.org, seek to empower indy artists, authors, musicians, and creators with Open Source Content Management Systems. Elliot writes new rugged American literature.
Calvin Baldwin
Calvin was in the class of 1997 at Vanderbilt in Electrical Engineering and picked up an MBA from Kenan-Flagler un 2005. He is from Bryan, TX and now lives in the Triangle. He runs EA Consultants (www.eacsolutions.com) and is the CIO of NeoSemantics.com.
Jared Polivka
Jared is a sophomore at UNC studying Journalism and Political Science from New Bern. He quotes Mark Twain on his profile with “I never let schooling interfere with my education.” He is into golf, martial arts, and ultimate Frisbee. He wants to get his homework out of the way so he can focus on his entrepreneurial projects. He is minoring in Entrepreneurship and is in Buck Goldstein’s class on entrepreneurship.
Brennan Eberle
Brennan is a sophomore at UNC studying Economics and Business Administration from Cary, NC. He is involved in Nourish and NC Fellows. I’ve known Brennan since early 2006 when I met his sister Meg while working with Zarkan Clothing and the Carolina Challenge.
Nate Seaman
Nate is a junior at UNC studying Economics and Entrepreneurship from Connecticut. He does fencing, wakeboarding, and snowboard and does market analysis for Falcon Investors. Nate is “not a business man; he’s a business, man.” He lives in the fencing house I believe—or at least parties there a lot.
Suresh L. B.
Suresh is a junior at UNC studying business from Goldsboro, NC. I think he is in AK Psi. He’s looking for Drucker’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Portable MBA in Entrepreneurship—according to his profile—Suresh I have both if you still need them. Kelly Leonhardt
Kelly is a Sophomore at UNC from Huntersville, NC. We got connected a couple months ago through Bob Phoenix who’s in Barcelona for the semester now. Devan Ray Donaldson
Devan is a grad student at UNC studying Information and Library Science from Chesterfield, Virginia. He graduated from William and Mary in 2006 with a degree in History. He is the Research Assistant to Dean Dr. Jose Marie Griffiths at the School of Information and Library Science. I met Devan last week at the Knowledge Trust Awards put on by the Louis Round Wilson Trust.
Ted Neill
Ted was in the class of 2000 in Georgetown, got a Masters in Public Health and Global Health at Emory, and now is working on his PhD in Health Behavior and Health Education at UNC. He works for CARE.
Casey Sessoms
Casey is a junior at UNC studying Biology. She transferred here this year. She is from Aberdeen, NC and she went to high school in Pinehurst. She has 88% extraversion on her Facebook My Personality App. I met Casey through John and Christina and she is a smart, sincere person.
Ruchir Shah
Ruchir is the founder of SPOT-NC (Students and Professionals of the Triangle), a networking organization in the Triangle. Ruchir works at Constella Group in Durham. He is a 2006 PH.D from UNC in Bioinformatics.
Michael Plater
Michael is a Sophomore at UNC from Greensboro studying Economics, Biology, and Entrepreneurship. He is interested in dancing, entrepreneurship, biomedical engineering, web design, and web 2.0. He writes on his profile, “My main goal is to help young people live more productive lives by increasing the amount of value they create and build for themselves and others. I hope to achieve this by advocating my philosophy of building something, anything, whether a research paper, an art piece, a company, or a book. John Parron Hinson
John describes his religious views as 'whatever Bill Murray thinks.' He is from Chapel Hill. He is a NC State graduate in computer science and economics, but is better known as a great DJ, amazing freestyle rapper, and the Vice President of Cold Process Roofing and COO of Dormoo. John worked for Northrop Grumman in Maryland for a few years before coming back to town. I've known John since the ManDate meetups of 2006.

Scott Hurff
Scott is a 2006 graduate of Wake Forest where he studied Politics and Economics. He is from Dublin, Ohio who now lives in Raleigh. His favorite books include the 4 Hour Workweek, Founders at Work, and The Prince. He now works as a Business Analyst at Channel Advisor, which is a leader in online channel management solutions. He is also the founder of Fuego (www.thefuego.com) and Groupvine (www.thegroupvine.com). He also worked for Kodiak Venture Partners as an Entrepreneur in Residence back in the day. He supports Mitt Romney for President in 2008.
James Forsyth
James is an economics major at Wake Forest in the class of 2008. He has been my roommate since June. He is currently focusing on creating the script, raising funding, and building support for a documentary on global poverty called The Great Awakening made in the spirit of An Inconvenient Truth. He is working on getting the support of Russell Simmons, Jay-Z, and Jeffrey Sachs. He is also working on starting a progressive student magazine. He is off to raise funding from a hedge fund in New York City shortly.

Joey Amanchukwu
Joey is a Corporate Account Manager at Good Technology (now Motorola). He went to St. Augustine for college where he studied Computer Science and is interested in investing, real estate, and financial freedom. He has the following quote from Nelson Mandela on his profile: “Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings.” Joey is mad at Ben Bernake because he was caught off guard by the fed rate drop last week. He advises one to never short prior to fed comments.
Roey Rosenblith
Roey is a 2006 graduate of UNC-W in Poli Sci and Biology. He was formerly the Director of Outreach and Fulfillment for the Full Belly Project (http://www.fullbellyproject.org/index.asp) which is working to distribute a nut shelling machine in Uganda and other locations that saves a tremendous amount of labor. Roey has worked as a research assistant for Arianna Huffington. Roey is part of the 102 Millingport crew. He is starting to work on VillageStartup.com a venture capital firm for developing nations.
Xan Spencer
Xan went to MTSU for college and now is a superstar as a Lead Generation Rep in the sales department at iContact. He says on his profile, “I believe in helping others through entrepreneurship as I believe in the need for passion and tenacity too succeed, Not because I can see it, But because of it, I can see the benefit it bestows on others.” He has on his profile, “Eventually I will own a business, but what its going to be i am not sure right now.I would like to own an investment firm but nothings set in stone. I just know that I want to be my only boss! It’s just the only way to go. I am very goal oriented and one day I plan on living the life style that most people dream.”
Emilie Yeager
Emilie works on the systems team at iContact. She graduated from Gardner-Webb in 2005 where she studied Computer Science and Math. She will be moving to New York City in October to begin a new adventure. She says that life is like the movie Garden State. I’ve spent the past few Friday nights staying up until about 6am talking to Emilie about all things related to life and can say she is an awesome person—and makes hilarious dancing faces. She wants to work in the future with a non-profit organization that works with suicide prevention. She is having a party at our house on Saturday October 6 that everyone is invited to!
Bahby Banks
Bahby is a 2005 graduate of Boston University who now is working on her PhD at UNC in Health Behavior and Health Education. She has worked with the University of Malawi Summer Public Health Institute and has studied and worked on issues related to HIV/AIDS. I have not yet met Bahby but look forward to meeting her.

You can park along Park Bluff N. road if you can't fit in the cul de sac. Try not to make too much noise while outside because the neighbors will probably be sleeping.
